My Return To Hong Kong 2009

Hong Kong was Amazing.
Apologies for the lack of recent posts. I have been absent in my favourite place. Hong Kong.

Me & Parents decided to go back for 2 weeks, in time to celebrate the Chinese New Year!
I was re-acquainted with my Dads side of the family & They are lovely people. They were extremely welcoming and I did not feel left out with any of my time there. I went out everyday, there was always something to do! Plus even after going out, the day normally ended with a game of Mahjong Against my cousins, uncles or aunties and the games would continue well into the early hours of the next day.

During the New year, it was custom to light several fireworks and chains of dynamite, to pray to gods and plant incense for them. Before the New year period came around, everyone had to bathe in Grapefruit leaves, to cleanse and ward off spirits. & As soon as the first day of the new year arrived, I received several red envelopes containing money, and we were not allowed to wash our hair that day. Because apparently it was believed that if you washed your hair, you washed away the good spirit that came to you also.

I met all of my lovely cousins all over again; they took me shopping and in my time in HK. I managed to go to a Karaoke Bar and Macau, into the worlds largest Hotel Casino (The Venetian) I also gambled & Won! ^^-

I also managed to go to a Toilet themed resturant it was indeed very strange however still very fun to be at. I had my hair permed and shopping was just complete heaven, HK had so many wonderful shops, great fashion, great food & everything was that much cheaper. Also the night at the Karaoke bar didn’t end until midnight, that’s 4-5 hours solid singing! It’s definitely the place for me. I’d love to actually live there for a long period of time. It’s just I don’t have any friends there and I built myself here in England, so moving so far away would be hard. However let’s move on to the interesting stuff; The photos!
( I also paid several visits to the Purika machine in my time in HK, those oblivious to what these machines do, they’re basically fancy photo booths that let you decorate your photos afterwards with several images and words.)

Let’s begin with where I stayed; My 2 week lodge was at my Grandmothers 3 story house. In a village occupied by mainly other branches of the family.

This was home. For 2 weeks and a bit.

It doesn’t look like any 5 star hotel I assure you, but I wasn’t home alot of the time and for the times that I was, it was comfortable to live in & despite outer appearance the interior was very well maintained by a personal maid, hired by my grandmother.

Shopping was definitely the initial thought that sprang to my mind and as expected, the Stores in Hong Kong were wonderful!

During the chinese new year there was also a flower festival in which people attend to purchase new flowers to decorate their homes, bring good fortune & such. There were many activities that went on as well. Fishing with a paper net was one of them!

This was fun for me, I’d only watched this being done on television so it was a novelty.

Visiting Shops wasn’t the only fun activity there was. Me & Family also spent a day in Macau!

As part of the celebration of the new year, When me & Family were in Macau, there was a Firework Festival Gathering, were the public came together, purchased copious amounts of fireworks and set them alight across the sea.

There was also this adorable Candy House in Macau.

Then everyone went into a gaming arcade where I had a few rounds on Taiku drum master, DDR & Soul Calibur II. Sadly I was having too much fun to take photos at the time x].

A few days after heading home ( & Several Shopping trips later ) me & Cousins went to a toilet themed restaurant! Despite how disgusting this may sound, the queues came all the way out of the restaurant and around the staircase area.

It wasn't a real toilet, It substituted the seats in the restaurant!

It went so quickly, I wish I could’ve stayed longer. Anyway, to welcome me at my humble abode were curtains of snow that spread across the ground :)

Hiii!

So I went to London to watch Monkey : Journey To The West.

(Click the link for more information about the show.)
An ancient chinese legend about a Monkeys’ quest to become a god! Along with Tripitaka (The Monk Whom Was Expelled), Pigsy (Who Had Fallen From His Status) & Sandy (Who Was Originally A Monster).
The version I went to see was the Musical/Opera version Live. Including animation from what people had saw in the adverts for the 2008 olympic. (The Animation is by the same people who are drawing for the popular band Gorillaz). I love the Art.

Verdict : The show was AMAZING! But I sat behind these 2 really tall women in a seat to the far left so my view wasn’t as clear as I would’ve liked it to be.
I loved the songs they used & the acrobat, gymnastics & choreography was excellent.

Since photography was not allowed inside the theatre I couldn’t really show you what it was like ;<
(They are available on the website.)

I sneaked a few before the show began though!

&& Here are some snaps from my day :)
